Medine Damla Dusgun, a senior high school student living in Yesilhisar district of Kayseri, started weightlifting 3 years ago with the insistence of her father, Kara Dusgun. When Dusgun’s friend also received a degree in the same branch, his interest in weightlifting increased. Medine Damla Dusgun, who continues her education in Bünyan district, started to do her training here. Dusgun, who continued his training at home when school was on holiday, continued his work by going street running and chopping wood as weight training. Dusgun, who prepared for the competitions with an intense pace of 8 hours a day, became the Turkish champion in the Inter-School Youth Turkish Championship held in Aydın’s Kuşadası district last March. Medine Damla Dusgun and her father Kara Dusgun made statements.
Stating that his current goal is to participate in the 2028 Olympics, Dusgun said, “I started sports when my father found my physical structure suitable. During the pandemic, my interest and curiosity increased a little more after a friend of mine got a degree in weightlifting. I continue my education life and training in Bünyan district. I am 8 hours away from the Turkish and European championships in which I will participate.” “I am preparing with double training,” he said.
“I CHIP WOOD AT HOME TO DO WEIGHT TRAININGS”
Stating that there are moments when he thinks of giving up, Dusgun said, “I am very close to giving up due to the sudden injuries I have suffered. But I continue my training and try to keep the promises I made to myself in order to sing the National Anthem and wave our flag. When the schools are on holiday, I continue my training in the social facilities in Yeşilhisar.” “And I continue at home. I go for street runs. I chop wood at home to do weight training,” he said.
“THEY SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP”
Referring to the competitions he participated in, Dusgun said:
“Last April, I became the Turkish champion in the weightlifting branch of the Inter-School Youth Turkish Championship. I came third in Turkey in the Inter-School Turkish Inter-Club Championship. I also came second in Turkey in the muaythai branch. I promise that I will not return without a medal from all the competitions I go to after January. My coaches and I am trying not to waste my own efforts. My goals are to participate in the 2028 Olympics and to become European and world champions. I have things I want to say to my brothers and sisters who do sports. They should never give up. They always bring themselves to a successful place with the degrees they receive, the work they do, their determination and ambition. .”
KARA DUSHGÜN: I WANT TO SEE IT IN EUROPE TOO
Medine Damla Dusgun’s father, Kara Dusgun (54), said, “I have 4 daughters. The youngest is Medine Damla. I encouraged my daughter to do this sport. After Medine became the first in Turkey, I want to see her in Europe.”
