Medical emergency on the sidelines after the cup final

After the final whistle, the RB Leipzig players celebrated the cup success with their fans for minutes. But a short time later, a medical emergency occurred. The crowd in the stadium fell silent.

A medical emergency occurred a few minutes after the DFB Cup final between SC Freiburg and Rasenballsport Leipzig. Paramedics rushed to the sidelines of the Berlin Olympic Stadium and treated a person who had health problems. As the DFB announced, it was a photographer.

The association did not say what caused the emergency. To protect privacy, the paramedics shield the person from view with a brown tarp. A short time later, an ambulance arrived and helped transport the patient to the hospital.

Fans, players and officials were silent for minutes out of respect. Thousands of fans inside the stadium turned on their cell phone lights to show their sympathy.

It was then announced in the stadium that the person’s health had stabilized, prompting much applause from the stands.

The handover of the DFB Cup was postponed by a few minutes.
