Star quarterback Russell Wilson is said to have extended his contract with the Denver Broncos early. As several US media reported on Thursday, the 33-year-old will stay with the three-time Super Bowl winner of the National Football League (NFL) for another five years and $ 245 million.
The contract, which guarantees $165 million, ties Wilson to the Colorado franchise for the next seven years. It would be the third highest guaranteed sum in league history – behind Deshaun Watson (Cleveland / 230 million) and Kyler Murray (Arizona / 189.5), both also playmakers.
The quarterback is said to earn up to a maximum of $49 million per season – just a little less than NFL superstar Aaron Rodgers, who earns an annual salary of $50.3 million with the Green Bay Packers.
The Broncos signed Wilson from Seattle last March. In 2014, the playmaker led the Seahawks to a 43-8 victory over his current employer in the Super Bowl.
Denver has missed the playoffs six times in a row since the last Super Bowl triumph in 2015. The Colorado franchise will start the new NFL season on September 12 with the Seattle Seahawks.
