Media mogul Rupert Murdoch (92) calls off engagement after two months | show

Less than two months after billionaire and media magnate Rupert Murdoch announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, the intended wedding has already been called off. That’s what the magazine reports Vanity Fair.

Murdoch, 92, who has been married four times before, proposed to 66-year-old Smith on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) in New York. The wedding was to take place at the end of the summer. Last week knew the Daily Mail yet to report that Murdoch had purchased an 11-carat diamond engagement ring for Smith worth $2.5 million.

But according to Vanity Fair the two would have insurmountable differences about Smith’s outspoken evangelical views, among other things. The former dental hygienist was previously married to media magnate and country singer Chester Smith. Her husband died more than fourteen years ago.

Murdoch himself divorced his fourth wife in August last year: the American fashion model Jerry Hall. A month later he met Smith. Murdoch has six children.

The fortune of the American businessman is estimated at 17 billion dollars. Murdoch owns several influential media outlets including Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post in the U.S, The Sun and The Times in the United Kingdom and also newspapers in his native Australia.
