Media: Gabriela Hearst leaves Chloé

Gabriela Hearst is set to leave Chloé after three years as creative director. The Spring/Summer 2024 collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week in September, will be the designer’s last for the French fashion house, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

An official statement from Hearst and Chloé’s parent company, Richemont, is still pending. However, the Uruguayan-born, New York-based designer is expected to return fully to her own eponymous label following her departure.

Coinciding with the report of a possible departure from Hearst, Chloé announced a partnership with Atelier Jolie. The Parisian luxury fashion house is the first brand to collaborate with the fashion label created by Angelina Jolie. For Atelier Jolie, the designer created a women’s capsule collection using leftover materials.

Should Gabriela Hearst leave Chloé, it will be in line with the typical length of design deals, which is typically around three years. However, Hearst’s departure comes at a time when her sustainability-focused approach has catapulted the fashion house to the forefront of sustainable luxury.

Under Hearst’s leadership, Chloé became the first luxury company to earn B Corp certification. It also launched the Social Performance & Leverage tool, an open-source platform that allows brands to rank their suppliers’ performance in areas such as gender equality and fair wages, Vogue magazine reported. Chloé’s commitment to a circular business model was also demonstrated with the launch of Chloé Vertical, a resale program that works with digital labels.
