Second in the overall World Cup, biathlon star Elvira Öberg traveled to Germany with great ambitions for the Biathlon World Cup. But the highlight of the season in Oberhof quickly turned into an absolute nightmare for the Swede. The 23-year-old was only able to complete one of four individual decisions due to illness.
In the sprint she fell far short of expectations with 16th place. After all: In the women’s relay race, Öberg was ready for action again after her cold and celebrated a happy end with the bronze medal.
Biathlon star thanks you for your support
On Sunday, the relay Olympic champion was only a spectator in the Arena am Rennsteig. There she was able to watch her older sister Hanna crown herself as the new world champion in the mass start. After the race, however, Elvira also had to answer questions from the press in a media round. There she especially thanked her partner Axel Frost for his support.
“It means so much to me to have a friend like him who still supports me a little bit more,” enthused Öberg, adding: “It was a tough World Cup for me. I had to be outside of the team, so it has It means a lot to me that he was there for me”.
In addition to Frost, the parents of the Öberg sisters were also there. “It’s a great feeling that mum and dad can be here and Hanna’s two gold medals and my first World Cup medal, because we weren’t allowed to have an audience for two years,” said the biathlon ace.
