On November 5th, Stade celebrates the tenth edition of the Hanse Song Festival – presented by Musikexpress. A total of 23 artists will give concerts throughout the old town in churches, courtrooms, museums and on cultural stages. The walks from one venue to the next add to the homely atmosphere: most of the half-timbered houses date from the 17th century.

But back to the music: As always, the Hanse Song Festival moves between the genres indie-pop and singer-songwriter this year; many of the announced musicians* will write lyrics in German. This year, among others, Jochen Distelmeyer is honoring the Hanseatic city of Lower Saxony – a week ago (July 1st) he released GEFELTE WAHHREITEN, the first record with his own pieces in over a decade. The American alternative singer Sophia Kennedy can also be found in the line-up. She doesn’t have to go far: from her home in Hamburg, it takes about an hour to take the S-Bahn. Martin Bechler from Fortuna Ehrenfeld has a longer way ahead of him, taking it from Cologne to Lower Saxony for a solo concert. The Düsseldorf Düsterboys are drawn from Essen to the far north; the Alpine Republic is represented in Stade with Nino from Vienna.
