Good news: As part of this year’s Reeperbahn Festival, we are presenting a MUSIKEXPRESS night. On Friday (September 23) three musicians, who are highly valued by the editors, will play in the historic Gruenspan at Große Freiheit 58.
Alyona Alyona, Priya Ragu and Mia Morgan
Among other things, we are looking forward to the Ukrainian musician Alyona Alyona, who is influenced by cloud rap and trap. The “New York Times” has already compared her to Azealia Banks: In her raps, she dispenses with strong language and prefers to devote herself to topics such as female self-empowerment and body positivity .
Tamil-Swiss singer/songwriter Priya Ragu will also honor us. Her music could be described as R&B in the broadest sense, but the 36-year-old also refers to her roots: from Kollywood samples (similar to Bollywood, but originating in southern India) to Krishna mantras and traditional tabla sounds their cultural heritage.
The third musician in the program of the ME night is the exile from Kassel, Mia Morgan. She spans a net between Wave Gothic meetings, colorful hype pop and 2000s girl rock – supported by self-critical and ambiguous songwriting. Her debut album FLEISCH in April this year was a manifestation of becoming a woman.
The Reeperbahn Festival as a springboard
Europe’s largest club festival is particularly important for newcomers: Because numerous players from the music business as well as journalists can be found there, a successful performance can quickly become a stepping stone. A total of 470 concerts by 200 acts are on the program this year; The organizers expect around 40,000 visitors per day.
