with videoA large, spreading fire broke out at a boat shed in Poeldijk on Friday evening. An NL Alert has been sent due to heavy smoke development in the surrounding area and part of the building has collapsed. The fire also spread to adjacent buildings, including a building materials store. It is not yet known whether anyone was injured. The riot police were deployed because the fire brigade was ‘attacked, pelted and obstructed’ during their work.

The first report of the fire on the Jupiter arrived at the control room around 9 p.m. Within two minutes the fire was scaled up to a ‘very large fire’. The police spoke of heavy smoke development, which also spread over neighboring The Hague. An NL Alert was sent at 10:30 PM due to smoke development.
The fire brigade immediately arrived at the industrial estate with more than 10 fire trucks and 5 aerial platforms. It is not yet known how the fire started. The fire probably started at the Bola Maritiem company, where boats are sold, maintained and stored, among other things. Part of the warehouse collapsed as a result of the fire.
Urgent advice
It is not yet known whether anyone was injured. Three ambulances were called as a precaution. “The urgent advice is to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off mechanical ventilation if you are bothered by the smoke,” the fire brigade warned shortly after the fire broke out.
The fire attracted a lot of attention from the area. According to a police spokeswoman, the fire brigade was seriously hindered during the extinguishing work and therefore intervened. “The riot police and dog handlers have been deployed to keep the spectators at a distance,” the police said.
Due to the strong winds, a large area around the location was cordoned off. A helicopter hovered above the industrial estate to monitor the fire. Around 11 p.m. the fire spread from the boat storage shed to a building materials store. “The fire brigade is busy extinguishing the fire and preventing further spread to other buildings,” a spokesperson said. Two fire hydrants are demolishing part of the buildings to get closer to the fire and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Camera system alarm
Josh, owner of a business across the street from the boat company, suddenly received an alarm from his camera system around 9:30 p.m. He looked and thought ‘what is happening there’ and saw the first fire engines already extinguishing the fire. His camera did not capture the origin of the fire. Entrepreneurs and acquaintances look upstairs at the Wassink car company at the fire, which keeps flaring up. They provide coffee for the fire brigade employees.
The nursing home in Poeldijk, close to the fire, was covered in smoke. It ‘was blue’, according to an employee. Employees have closed and taped all windows shut. The ventilation system further extracts the smoke. The NL-Alert sent already warned to keep windows and doors in the area closed.
