This week it’s all about the new records from Bonobo, Cat Power, Elvis Costello and Grace Cummings.
Elvis Costello’s new album THE BOY NAMED IF is (at least in large parts) one Return to the ecstatic post punk his early Years. show that songs like “Farewell, OK” or “Magnificent Hurt”, the musical not far away are of which the late 70s
Bonobo has been around for years for his downbeat-Ecelebrated electro. But on his new album FRAGMENTS, the multi-instrumentalist from Leeds proves that he really has the groove. are particularly outstanding the e.gwhite musical guest posts by his labelcolleagues Jordan rake and the R’n’B singer Jamila Woods.
COVERS is already Cat Power’s third record, on the she reinterprets rock & pop templates – and that makes her very idiosyncratic: Rather than emphasizing obvious characteristics, she plays the songs the way she wants to hear them. This makes COVERS an exciting detective game.
Grace Cummings’ new record STORM QUEEN is back again created on its own and has a bit of pathos – but Cummings is only too happy to admit that. Because songs like “Heaven” or “Freak” are based on an unbelievable fervor and depth that you don’t often find in contemporary indie folk.
