Australian actor Peter Hardy, known for his role in the TV series McLeod’s Daughters, drowned during a snorkeling trip in Australia. He was found unconscious in the water off South Beach in Fremantle, near Perth, last Thursday.
Hardy, who was only 66 years old, had traveled to Perth from London, where he had lived for several years, to visit his elderly mother, according to local media. The actor had gone snorkeling off South Beach on Thursday when he ran into trouble. Bystanders tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful. The exact cause of death is still under investigation.
His brother Michael confirmed the tragic news on social media. “I am devastated to say that my brother, Peter Hardy, passed away suddenly this morning. Rest in peace my dear little brother.”
Peter Hardy, who started his acting career in musicals, starred in some episodes of the iconic Australian series in 1997 Neighbours. He became known to the general public for his role as Phil Rakich in McLeod’s Daughters in which he appeared for three seasons.
Another man died on Sunday near South Beach. He was also taken unconscious from the water and could not be brought back to consciousness.
