Mayor threatened: man (76) receives a contact and area ban

The man who insulted Mayor Boy Scholtze of the municipality of Drimmelen because of his sexual orientation and almost ran him over has been given a contact and area ban. This means that the 76-year-old man from Made is not allowed to come near the mayor and the town hall.

The court in Breda has determined this. He also decided to release the man, under conditions. Scholtze finds this unpleasant and understands that residents of the municipality of Drimmelen may be concerned now that the man is walking around freely again.

The 76-year-old resident of Made was arrested on Monday after he attacked Scholtze. He has been in custody ever since. On Thursday he was brought before the examining magistrate of the court in Breda. He imposed a contact and area ban on him. The man was released, but the judge told him that he must behave himself. Scholtze has been informed of this.

Man had already been banned
The man is not only accused of threatening Scholtze. According to a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service, he also threatened to come to the town hall with his tractor and drive it inside. He also insulted the mayor in a discriminatory manner. He also violated a ban that had already been imposed on him to enter the town hall without a valid reason.

Scholtze, in a statement that he distributed via social media: “Of course I can imagine that residents or entrepreneurs are concerned about the fact that the suspect is walking around freely in our municipality. I can tell these people that if you encounter issues such as threats, intimidation or discrimination, you must always report this to the police and also file a report if there is reason to do so.”

“I have great confidence in the Dutch legal system. In this framework,” the mayor continues, “a suspect may await his trial in freedom under certain conditions. The fact that I find that unpleasant in this case is not relevant.”

Scholtze once again states that he has received a lot of support: “That strengthens me to continue on this path. I am very grateful for all the heartwarming responses we have received in recent days. That has done my husband, my family and myself very, very good. It confirms that Drimmelen is a fantastic, sweet municipality!”

More than a year ago, Boy Scholtze started in Drimmelen, as the youngest mayor in our country:
