Mayor Eric van Oosterhout has presented a check worth 5,000 euros to Toby and Hellen Klingenberg from Schoonebeek. They are the parents of Isabelle Klingenberg who died in a collision with a car in February 2021 at the age of 8. Her friend Veerle also died.
To keep the memory of their daughter alive, the parents founded the Isabelle Foundation, which is committed to issues that were close to Isabelle’s heart, such as animal welfare and the environment. The ambition of the foundation is to build a petting zoo in the Schoonebeek Park. There is already a name: Isabelle Family Farm.
Mayor Van Oosterhout wants to contribute to the financing of the project with the check. The amount is the proceeds from the sale of his book ‘Happy in Emmen’, a collection of 122 columns that the mayor wrote between his appointment in 2017 and 2023.
