After last year, this year Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever (N-VA) decides that known rioters will be placed under preventive house arrest during New Year’s Eve. This concerns 31 Antwerp young people between 13 and 22 years old, who have previously caused a nuisance. For the first time there are also women among them. With this measure, De Wever wants to prevent them from disrupting public safety and peace. “Anyone caught with fireworks for the first time must take an awareness course or ‘fireworks class’.”
