Ankie Broekers-Knol, the interim mayor of Bloemendaal, today sent a letter to parents of teenagers who exhibit intimidating behavior on their fat bikes. She informed the city council of this on Thursday evening.
“We are working on conversations with parents of young people causing nuisance and the young people themselves. On the basis of identity checks, by the police and/or boas, of young people who are suspected or found to be causing a nuisance,” Broekers-Knol explains.
Names known
“There is a list. Some are known by name. The police have that list and tomorrow a letter in my name will be sent to the parents of the children who are causing a nuisance. So that they know that we have them in our sights.” , says Broekers-Knol.
The mayor asks the parents of those children in the letter to ‘please also take measures with their children.’ Discussions also take place with victims and their parents.
Big commitment
Broekers-Knol takes the matter seriously. Police surveillance is intensified, extra enforcers are deployed and stewards are deployed in the evenings. And this in places where the fat bike gang is often active, such as the shopping area in Bennebroek and the Bloemendaalseweg in Bloemendaal.
Bloemendaal youth workers are also actively involved in the problem. The municipality of Bloemendaal is working together with Heemstede, Velsen and Haarlem on this approach. According to Broekers-Knol, the members of the fat bike gang mainly come from Velsen and Haarlem and young people from Bloemendaal have joined them.
Still a nuisance
Council members indicated on Thursday evening that things had gone wrong again that same evening with nuisance from young people in the municipality, especially nuisance from fireworks on Schoollaan, Bennebroekerdreef and in the center of Bloemendaal.
However, few reports are made to the municipality. On the The municipality’s homepage now contains a page where residents can report the nuisance.
