Mayer was in Weimar on December 4, 2021 at the DOSB– General Assembly was elected to the Presidium, but after the end of his job as Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, he would have had to wait a twelve-month waiting period before he was allowed to carry out the honorary post in the DOSB.
Consequences will be discussed in March
Mayer was recently appointed sports policy spokesman for the Union parties. The DOSB Presidium “will deal with the consequencesn” of retreat “to be dealt with at its next regular meeting in March”, it said in the statement of the sports umbrella organization.
“I agree with Stephan Mayer, whom I would like to take this opportunity to thank again for his willingness to do voluntary work in the DOSB, that we will continue to maintain good and constructive cooperation for the benefit of sport in Germany in the new constellation will”, said DOSB President Thomas Weikert.
Three vice-presidents and one vice-president
The committee around the longtime table tennis official currently only has three vice presidents: Verena Bentele, Kerstin Holze, Miriam Welte and Oliver Stegemann. Like Weikert, they were newly elected to the presidency in December in Weimar. Mayer was also initially a candidate for the highest office in German sport, but he withdrew his application a few weeks before the election.
