Where usually 150 birds are taken care of, there are now 500 birds in the bird hospital in Naarden. This is a lot more than last year around this time. The breeding season has started and many people bring the animals to the shelter. Volunteers are extremely busy.
It turns out to be right again, May lays its egg, because it is incredibly busy at the bird shelter in Naarden. Many birds are born and brought to the shelter. The weather is nice again, so people are increasingly outside and encounter birds.
Well in the feathers
Day and night volunteers are busy helping birds. When the birds can eat, fly and have good feathers, they release the animals again.
It is good that many birds are brought, but this is not always necessary. Not every bird needs to be rescued, according to employee Judith de Veer: “The bird is often exhausted from learning to fly, so if they are in a safe place you can let them sit quietly. If necessary, check after an hour or two to see if they are there. still sitting, but often they have already flown away.”
