Although Maxime Meiland can currently be seen in a program about life on welfare, she makes pretty brash statements in the latest edition of Beau Monde. She tells Blasé that while shopping she ‘regularly’ forgets to look at the price tag and then has to pay a lot at the cash register, up to 900 euros for a simple sweater.

Sweater of 900 euros

Maxime says the following about it: “It happens to my father and I regularly that we didn’t look at the price tag out of enthusiasm. Then we are at the cash register and it is: ‘That will be nine hundred euros’. For something as simple as a sweater. Then we dare not say: ‘Oh girl, hang back’. We then get out our debit card when we are fed up.”

It must be bitter for the people who really live on welfare to read such boastful statements. Don’t even look at your price tag and then only pay 900 euros because you’ll feel a bit embarrassed otherwise… As if it’s change.

Outrage in the media

Maxime’s statements cause quite a stir, because they do not fit at all with someone who is currently playing the leading role in a program that aims to expose poverty in the Netherlands. ‘Despite the welfare program, Maxime Meiland sometimes buys without paying attention: ‘Sweater of 900 euros”, headlines Subway for instance.

And also it AD is stunned: “On TV you can currently see how Maxime Meiland and her family live on a welfare budget, but in real life the reality star has a completely different spending pattern. She shops without looking at the price tags, and so it sometimes happens that ‘something as simple as a sweater’ suddenly turns out to be 900 euros.”

Maxime irritated

Maxime responds to her Instagram irritated at the fuss. The media has done it again – the standard excuse when celebrities regret their statements. “Well, dear people, I have the feeling that I have to explain this, because I see all kinds of articles that are incorrect, namely ‘Maxime always shops without looking at the price tags’.”

She continues: “So that’s not true at all. It’s about the interview that will appear tomorrow in the Beau Monde with an amazing photo shoot, by the way, and in it I tell you that it has happened to me that when I’m shopping, I see an incredibly cool item and then forget to put it on the price tag. and then eventually you go to the checkout and they charge a ridiculously high amount for it, but then I’m too shy to say, “Well, no, never mind, hang it back.” I would not dare to do that.”

‘Take it easy’

It is all being taken out of context, according to Maxime. “And that sweater worth 900 euros was a kind of example of something so simple that you think: it can never be mega expensive, but that you still completely shocked yourself. Which. So take it easy people and don’t act so crazy like I can’t handle money or whatever. Hold on, argh…”

The literal statements of Maxime can simply be found on the Beau Monde site† It is the second time in a short time that Maxime wrongly points an accusing finger at the media. For example, she recently lied to Anna Nooshin that some of her statements were made up by the media, while they are simply in her father’s biography.
