What misery Maxime Meiland has brought upon herself by accusing a man of rape in her book, while she never reported it until there was a recent commotion. That man is not at all pleased with that accusation and has filed a complaint of libel and slander. But that reaction hits her hard.

Crying fits

According to an insider, Maxime is currently doing terribly badly. “She doesn’t go outside much and often has huge crying fits. She is not doing well, she is very concerned about the whole matter. Still, she has hope for a good outcome,” says this insider The Telegraph.

Is this correct? Her lawyer Sébas Diekstra confirms that his client is ‘having a hard time emotionally with the issue again’. The issue that she herself has of course publicized.

Loss of face

It will particularly affect Maxime that she receives so much criticism for the path she is taking: first making money from the abuse story through her book and only reporting it – after thirteen years – when public opinion turns against her. “It seems like the world upside down to me,” says the response forum NU.nl.

One Heidd thinks it’s a strange story. “It is special that she only reports the crime after questions arise as to why this has not yet been done. Recently, Maxime Meiland’s credibility has been questioned considerably. She is trying to sell a book and losing face is not part of that.”

Not so nice

Another points to the book by Caroline van Eeden, who has revealed what the Meilandjes are really like. “I read Caroline’s book and I don’t believe anything they say. This family isn’t as fun as they make it out to be on TV. I hope people who have read the book understand it. Hope the truth comes out.”

There’s something fishy about it, concludes a certain ACS. “Hmm… so Meiland accuses a man of rape in her book. There was no report yet at that time. That man responds to that and then a report is now being filed, because that man should not have responded? Sounds a bit strange to me.”

Angry Sebas

Lawyer Sébas Diekstra is indeed angry that this man is giving a counter reaction. He notes that the man ‘has been seeking out the media since December last year to tell his side of the story’.

“Now that information about him has come out due to his long search for attention, he regrets it. This seems contradictory and perverse.”
