Max Verstappen dominates Formula 1 at will. In Miami, the Red Bull driver achieved his third win of the season in five races. The world champion did not want to overestimate the fact that he also received boos on Sunday.
“If I drove around the back, no one would have booed,” Verstappen is quoted as saying by “Sky Sports”. “I think it’s normal when you win and they don’t like who wins,” said the 25-year-old.
Verstappen was booed by some fans before the award ceremony. Corresponding videos made the rounds on Twitter.
“For me it’s something that’s absolutely fine as long as I’m at the top. For me the most important thing is that I bring the trophy home,” explained Verstappen.
Max Verstappen dominates in Formula 1
The Dutchman is aiming for his third consecutive world title in Formula 1. Verstappen leads the drivers’ standings with 119 points. Only teammate Sergio Pérez (105 points) seems to be able to pose a threat to the Red Bull star.
Verstappen finished ahead of Pérez at the Miami Grand Prix. The reigning champion still drove to the top on P9 and thus cemented his supremacy in Formula 1.
“It was a good race. I stayed out of the problems right from the start and then it was a clean race. I was able to stay out for a long time on the hard tires,” said Verstappen about his race to catch up in Florida.
Formula 1: Max Verstappen feels “always unbeatable”
He feels “always unbeatable, but sometimes others have a good day and then challenge you”. “It’s important that you try to give 100 percent. It’s a long season and I always try to be close to perfection,” said Verstappen.
So far, Red Bull has won all five races of the season so far in Formula 1.
