Max Verstappen is looking forward to Monaco: ‘Heart rate shoots up’ | Motorsport

The Red Bull driver not only won for the first time on the streets of his hometown last year, he also created a unique event by taking over the lead in the World Cup position. Verstappen’s victory was the fastest ever in Monaco with an average speed of 157.833 kilometers. It was a Grand Prix without a safety car.

,,It is always a hectic, but also a special weekend in Monaco”, Verstappen looks ahead. “Qualifying is crucial. The track is very old fashioned and narrow. Your heart rate is skyrocketing, it’s insane. You have to constantly push the limits, it’s a crazy track with a Formula 1 car. My racing history in Monaco was not that good. It was a huge relief last year when I crossed the finish line first.”

Verstappen has won the last three races this season. Teammate Sergio Pérez finished second twice, in Imola and last Sunday in Barcelona. Red Bull took no less than 140 of the 147 maximum points that can be obtained in the last three race weekends.

Checo and I work very well as a team and of course it’s great that we have now taken the lead in both the drivers and constructors,” said Verstappen. “But there is still a long way to go and a lot can change, as we have seen so far this season.”
