Max Eberl’s million-dollar project canceled

After his short tenure at RB Leipzig, Max Eberl has left a lot of scorched earth behind. The club management of the Saxon Bundesliga club apparently does not want to implement a multi-million dollar project that was particularly important to FC Bayern’s designated sports director.

Specifically, it is about the establishment of a U23 team, which Eberl pushed forward during his short time in Leipzig. According to “Bild”, the RB management has now finally buried the 50-year-old’s idea.

The reason: The ambitious project with the aim of establishing the new team in the top group of the 3rd league would have cost the club around ten million euros per year. In addition, RB would not have had a stadium available for its second representation. An arena would have had to be built specifically – another major investment that the fourth team in the Bundesliga does not want to make.

Eberl was already confronted with further hurdles on the way to a U23 team from RB Leipzig in the 3rd league: Since the goal of those responsible was not to start in the district class, but at best in the upper league, the statutes of Saxon football would have -Association must be changed. RB had already suggested an exchange, including with the DFB, according to the report.

After Eberl’s dismissal and the rejection of the U23 project, all of that is now a waste of time.

FC Bayern instead of RB Leipzig? Eberl before moving to Munich

The 50-year-old ex-professional had to resign from RB Leipzig at the end of September. He was accused of not committing to his employer.

At the beginning of January, RB supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff retrospectively described Eberl’s attitude to “Sport Bild” as a “mistake”.

Eberl’s new job has already been decided: He will most likely be hired as sports director at FC Bayern.

At the end of December, the Munich “Abendzeitung” reported that his involvement on Säbener Strasse was just a “million-dollar formality.” Since Eberl’s contract with RB Leipzig was not terminated, the club is still entitled to a transfer fee.
