New job for ex-Leipzig boss
What had been brewing in the past few months is now apparently over: Max Eberl will be the new sports director at FC Bayern. This reports “Sky“relying on their own information. The 50-year-old manager, who most recently worked as sports director at RB Leipzig, is expected to sign a long-term contract with his former training club.
Eberl’s appointment is expected to be officially approved at the next supervisory board meeting at the end of February, it is said. Eberl is scheduled to take office in March at the earliest – i.e. during the second half of the 2023/24 season. With Eberl’s previous employer, all hurdles have apparently been eliminated; the transfer fee to be paid amounts to less than 5 million euros. RBL and FCB maintain a professional relationship, which is why an agreement does not pose a problem.

Eberl is considered the ideal solution to succeed Hasan Salihamidzic, who was released in the summer. His contract with the “Red Bulls” is valid until June 2006, so an agreement between the Leipzig and Munich team is absolutely necessary. The Saxons surprisingly ended their collaboration with the former successful Gladbach manager at the end of September because they lacked Eberl’s commitment. “Looking back, I made a mistake,” Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff recently said in an interview with “Sport Bild” about Eberl’s only ten months as sports director at the Bundesliga club. He was disappointed and sad, but not everything was bad.
