The chewing gum act of Max Eberl and FC Bayern could be over in just three weeks. According to a media report, the new strong man will start working for the record champions earlier than expected.
As “Bild” reports, Eberl will start as Munich’s sports director on March 1st – a month earlier than planned. Prerequisite: FC Bayern’s supervisory board approves Eberl at its meeting on February 26th.
According to the tabloid, Eberl is said to be really excited about his new job – the early start will allow him to “familiarize himself with the club earlier and prepare for the upcoming summer transfer period.”
FC Bayern and RB Leipzig had previously agreed on a transfer fee for the 50-year-old. According to consistent reports, 4.5 million euros are flowing from Munich to Leipzig. The clubs are said to agree on key points, but the deal has not yet been signed.
Max Eberl already has Bayern experience
RB Leipzig released Eberl from his duties as sports director at the end of September shortly before the top game against Bayern despite a contract until 2026. The Bundesliga club accused Eberl of a “lack of commitment”. Eberl had previously repeatedly dodged questions about a possible move to Bayern, which the Bulls bosses didn’t like.
The name Eberl has been floating around on Säbener Strasse in recent years. Eberl is said to maintain a close relationship with FCB patron Uli Hoeneß. As a player, he played one Bundesliga game for Bayern in 1991, but was unable to assert himself in the team. Eberl later played for Borussia Mönchengladbach for six years.
Eberl made a career as a sports director in the Lower Rhine, but resigned at the end of January 2022 due to exhaustion syndrome. Eberl will then join RB Leipzig in December 2022.
