Max Eberl top candidate at FC Bayern: perfect match or potential for conflict?

RB can insist on a transfer

“I am under contract with RB Leipzig,” Max Eberl told “Sport Bild” on Wednesday, when asked about the repeated speculation about the sports director moving to FC Bayern. Two days later, the 50-year-old was released from work by his previous employer (to the news). What initially looked like a heated topic before the upcoming top game between both clubs on Saturday evening is said to have cost Eberl his job due to internal differences. Before the move to Säbener Straße becomes a reality, there are still a few questions that need to be clarified. How high is the transfer fee that RB demands? And what exactly would the distribution of roles look like? There is skepticism in the TM community about the potential for conflict.

“Sport Bild” previously wrote that it was probably only a matter of time before Eberl took on an important position at FC Bayern. A change in the transfer period at the beginning of next year is “quite possible,” it was said. It was an open secret in RB circles that the intermezzo in Leipzig, which began in December 2022, would not last too long. The timing of the dismissal, however, came as a surprise.

This was justified with the “lack of commitment to the club” and happened “completely independently of the squad change and the sporting results.” Even without mentioning the name FC Bayern, the press release showed that the discussions about an early change caused internal differences of opinion have. Loud “Picture” and “Kicker“The people in charge at RB Leipzig lacked a clear denial about the Bayern speculation.

If Eberl comes to an agreement with those responsible for the record champions in the near future, the Saxons will come into play again. The manager is still an employee of RB Leipzig. A “long-term contract” has been officially communicated, which, according to a report by “Kicker”, is dated until 2026. If Bayern would like to sign Eberl, a transfer fee will be due. Leipzig’s powerful supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff, who brought Eberl to Leipzig as his dream solution, is likely to look at these negotiations with a mixture of irritation and anticipation. RB itself paid over 2 million euros to Eberl’s former club Mönchengladbach.

Max Eberl to FC Bayern? Role distribution with friend in TM community topic

Before that, however, it would have to be clarified what role the former Bayern professional should play on Säbener Straße. We are looking for a successor to Hasan Salihamidzic as sports director – one position above sports director Christoph Freund, who was officially introduced a month ago and is currently primarily responsible for Bayern’s transfer activities. Could this mean the next internal friction with Eberl? The TM community has doubts about problem-free collaboration.

“Friend could leave again if he gets put in front of Eberl. Because it should be clear that Freund will have fewer skills when Eberl comes. In this respect, the question is probably: friend or Eberl? We won’t have them together for long. I don’t believe in that. “There are far too many people who have to share skills or have nothing to say,” writes “Klitzpera” in the Bayern Forum.

“QuickNick” would also initially give the ex-Salzburg player sole decision-making power. “It wouldn’t be a good sign for me to directly confront someone. He should please prove himself first and be allowed to swim freely. If he does his job well, he has to become the sports director and no one else. It would be a catastrophic sign to have Eberl here from January 1st. to present without Freund being able to do anything great on his own in that time.”

On the other hand, user “ribery” points out the constellation of the past decades, when there was almost always more than one decision-maker and work was still successful. “You may have 1,000 employees, but when it comes to management, there is no other employee with the relevant footballing skills other than Freund in the senior team. For decades there were two heavyweights, Hoeneß and Rummenigge, who acted as correctives for each other. Nerlinger and Sammer were there at times. Beckenbauer was also here for a long time. Now that’s just a friend? That’s very little and not common at other clubs either.”
