Maud Vanhauwaert is KU Leuven’s new in-house writer
Maud Vanhauwaert studied Language and Literature at KU Leuven and UAntwerp and also obtained a master’s degree in Word Art at the Antwerp Conservatory. In her career as a writer, she has published several collections of poetry, for which she has already received several important prizes. Her first novel will be released in September. In her “quest to free poetry from the familiar sheet of paper” she also often performs with her lyrics.
Creative writing teacher
As an in-house writer at Leuven University, Vanhauwaert will teach a course in creative writing at the Faculty of Arts. Fifteen students are allowed to work with the author for a semester. “I think it’s very special that I get to work as a lecturer at KU Leuven,” says Vanhauwaert. “I applaud the fact that the university is paying attention to creative writing: the forced schism between science and art is being closed in this way.”
Poetry course
As an in-house writer, Vanhauwaert will also curate a poetry course in the context of the six hundredth anniversary of KU Leuven. Some of those poems will remain permanently in Leuven and in the university landscape.
