Mattie Valk’s girlfriend is sometimes mad when he is asked for a selfie on the street for the umpteenth time. “My girlfriend didn’t choose it and sometimes thinks: Geez.”
Well-known Dutch people can of course never walk the streets completely normally. After all, extra attention is always paid to them, people are curious and sometimes want to take a picture. That will happen a lot more often with an A-star than with a C-star. Mattie Valk is of course a very big star, but the inconvenience is not too bad for him.
Less than Linda
It is certainly manageable, says Mattie in conversation with Veronica Superguide. “That works fine in large cities, which means that we a) have no listeners there or b) people are less surprised by a well-known headline.”
He continues: “In the south or east of the country I am recognized a lot, but I always say: I am not Lady Gaga. Yes, I am addressed more often than other people, but less than Linda de Mol.”
“Gosh!”
Mattie’s girlfriend sometimes likes it a lot less. “My last holiday was to Malaga and there are many Dutch people there. You know that and you adapt to it. My girlfriend didn’t choose it and sometimes thinks: Geez. But that’s only after the tenth selfie and she likes it otherwise.”
“It’s part of it too. I want to reach an audience, so I shouldn’t complain about that.”
