Mattie Valk, the big star of Qmusic, finds it disgusting how some people react to Mark Rutte’s departure from politics. “It’s just shortsighted, stupid and disrespectful.”
Now that his fourth cabinet has fallen, Mark Rutte has decided to quit politics. Many people are happy about that, but Qmusic star Mattie Valk is a bit annoyed by that. He feels that the worst is currently emerging in some people, including people who are quite close to him.
Terribly shortsighted
Too bad, Mattie thinks. “I just want to say: yesterday I was still so disappointed in many people I follow on social media, including people I know personally, who wave goodbye to Rutte as a kind of joker, like a clown with texts such as: ‘ I’m going to pop the champagne’, or: ‘What a beautiful day this is.’”
They create the atmosphere of a national holiday, Mattie thinks. “I find that so terribly short-sighted and petty. Look, you don’t have to agree with someone’s ideas or decisions to see that he has fulfilled the role of Prime Minister and Member of Parliament very well.”
No social life
Mattie has a lot of respect for Mark Rutte. “Having the most thankless job in the country 24/7 with incredible dedication for thirteen years, but always being there. That is independent of ideas, guys.”
He continues: “Look, I really give it to you: having no social life, threats, always looking for the right tone with large files such as corona, empathizing with the MH17 disaster. You can get it wrong so quickly.”
Half idiot
He’s a very capable man, Mattie thinks. “I found him eloquent, I found him binding and if you still want to talk about his decisions: that he is prime minister, that does not mean that he takes all those decisions on his own, of course.”
He continues: “And I would like to hear from everyone who mocks him now in four years about who will be in his post, because someone who has been in the service of your country for that long cannot be sent away like a half idiot. That is short-sighted, stupid and disrespectful.”
Mattie’s argument:
