It is clear that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk never wants to work for BNNVARA again, but where? And which broadcaster still wants to accommodate him? There are currently two.
Matthijs van Nieuwkerk has left BNNVARA with a bonje. The presenter did not feel enough support from the broadcaster during the riot about his misconduct at De Wereld Draait Door. When the investigation into this has been completed, he would like to return to the tube, but RTL does not seem to want to burn his fingers on him after the entire Voice scandal.
Anything in the pipeline yet?
SBS is of course excluded – complete mismatch – and then only the NPO remains. But which public broadcaster wants to take the risk? And maybe something is already in the pipeline?
Shownieuws has done a tour of the fields. “We have spoken extensively with all kinds of producers, and especially MediaLane, with whom he often works and who has also set up his own production company so that he earns a bit more than the Balkenende standard, but they knew nothing,” says Patty Brard at the desk.
Two broadcasters
Patty states that most public broadcasters, except two, are holding back. “All broadcasters say: ‘We don’t really know, let that investigation take place first.’ The point is that there have been two broadcasters saying, ‘He’s always welcome.’”
Which broadcasters? “One is the EO; they are of course always incredibly forgiving. “If he comes up with the right format, we’d be happy to talk to him.” And the other, that’s the other extreme, is PowNed. They also want to talk to him. ‘He is always welcome here’, was even said.”
Investigation is ongoing
Will we soon see Matthijs present a kind of Korenslag at the EO? Or run after protesting rascals with a pink PowNed windshield? “Ultimately, the NPO is the owner and they say they are not talking to him at all. They are ultimately the boss,” Patty explains.
And the NPO will definitely want to wait for the results of the investigation first. When is that completed? Probably just after summer. “And then you actually already have the entire winter programming ready.”
The comeback of Matthijs can therefore take a while.
