Matthijs van Nieuwkerk arouses annoyance at both RTL Boulevard and SBS Shownieuws. The programs are allowed to promote his new book, but not ask questions about his private life.
The new collection of short stories by Matthijs van Nieuwkerk was grandly presented yesterday in a beach bar. RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws were also there, but their target group is of course not waiting for a conversation about that booklet. They just want to know about his new girlfriend and the alleged quarrel with his children.
Subject ban
What turned out? Matthijs wanted to use the attention of Boulevard and Shownieuws to promote his new book, but in return did not want to give any quotes about his private life. His manager called last minute to unilaterally impose a subject matter ban.
Luuk Ikink, the presenter of Boulevard, says: “We wanted to ask him about his private life, didn’t we? What he will do in the summer for example. Of course he has a new love. Only in the afternoon, before we got there, we were called by someone from the management or I know a lot.”
What did that manager of Matthijs say? “He said: ‘You are absolutely not allowed to ask questions about that.’ It’s not meant to be discussed. I have no idea why.”
Matthijs to New York
Rob Goossens then reveals: “Coincidentally, I know that they have already been on holiday to New York, so they just sit in the backyard all summer.”
Oh, nice to New York. When Matthijs sat at the table with Beau last night, he was still agitating against air travel: “I’m going back to Paris tomorrow by train, not by plane. That’s where I just came from. (…) You go to Paris by train anyway. I honestly don’t think you can fly there anymore.”
Continuously up and down by train to Paris and then also for a city trip to New York. Pretty daring to lecture others with such a whopper of an ecological footprint. Not to mention the gas-guzzling Porsche Cayenne he drives around in.
Evert pissed off
On to Show news. There they are also a bit pissed off about Matthijs’ subject ban. “We were forbidden to ask questions about his private life and we would like to talk about that,” said Evert Sankrediets.
De Privé boss: “Martha Riemsma has been the new great love in his life for at least a year, but probably longer. We weren’t allowed to ask about that and he wouldn’t say anything about it. She was a bit more candid about it herself and it’s quite striking that we at least have that.”
Martha does talk
Martha reacted briefly when the Shownieuws reporter asked about her love life. “Is this really necessary? It’s going great. It’s going really well, for sure,” she said. “It’s kind of part of it, isn’t it? I am happily standing here on a beach and suddenly there is a large camera in front of me, so that takes some getting used to of course.”
How bizarre! Just suddenly a camera in front of her nose. And that at a press presentation to which Matthijs’ management has invited half the press. Very strange indeed. What are those cameras doing there?!
Evert: “Well, nice person. There are stories that his children resent him that there seems to be some overlap in this new relationship and his very long marriage with his ex-wife Karin, but we have learned nothing from that.”
‘Busy busy busy’
Does anyone else have anything to say about Matthijs? Yes, Wilfred Genee. He grumbles in Today Inside that Matthijs never wants to come by. “He would still come by, but it just doesn’t work, does it? He’s so busy. Busy, busy, busy he is.”
After the commercial break: “I just heard that Matthijs is with Beau. Damn, we missed that one then.”
