The Aran Bade’s and Evert Santegoeds of this world sleep on their doormat in the night from Friday to Saturday. In the early morning, the Volkskrant will finally hit the mat with the controversial article about Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. The presenter himself has already read the piece.

Little Matthew

For the rest of the country it is still completely unclear what the newspaper has to say about Matthijs. Columnist Jan Dijkgraaf expects a lot from it after all those months of research. He would consider it a travesty if the newspaper were only going to pull old cows out of the ditch.

Jan sums up his Letter from Jan about which scandals surrounding Matthijs have long since ceased to be news, for example: “Is de Volkskrant coming up with the scoop that you were only too happy to put little Matthijs in employees and female guests of De Wereld Draait Door? Don’t we already know?”

Children’s blood

There is almost nothing left to say about Matthijs that is not already out on the street, Jan thinks. “The crazy thing is: we already know all the dirt about you,” he writes. “But maybe my imagination just falls short, Matthijs. Maybe you drink children’s blood with your breakfast. Maybe you are in transition. Maybe you were actually a hologram all these years.”

Jan will be curious. “I’m really curious now! But I promise the editors-in-chief of de Volkskrant one thing. If after five months of ‘investigative journalism’ they only come up with the story that you were a n***ing arrogant bastard with (several) bad friends all these years, I will immediately cancel my subscription.”
