Arjen Lubach made a very spicy joke about Matthijs van Nieuwkerk in his evening show last night. He mentioned the talk show host there in the same breath as Adolf Hitler.
It is unprecedented how abruptly and thoroughly Matthijs van Nieuwkerk disappeared from the screen after the revelations about De Wereld Draait Door. We really never hear from him again and there are few colleagues who step into the breach for him. Not even Arjen Lubach, that Matthijs’ spot as the big one dailystar of NPO 1 has taken over.
Putin in the car
Arjen has last night in his popular Evening show made a pretty spicy joke about Matthijs, namely during an item about Russian president Vladimir Putin. He has visited the city of Mariupol occupied by his army.
Presenter Annechien Steenhuizen showed images in the Eight Hour News on which Putin himself drives through the city: “It seems a bit strange: the Russian president himself behind the wheel. You may not immediately recognize him, filmed from the back here. According to Russian state media, Putin is driving through the streets of Mariupol here.”
Strange face
A gruesome war criminal like Putin in a very everyday situation: it comes across as a bit strange, Arjen also thinks. After the fragment with Annechien, he says: “Yes, that is indeed a very strange sight, isn’t it, such a dictator at the wheel?”
He continues: “Like watching Hitler fry an egg. However? Or Mugabe with the petty thief. “Do you do that yourself?” “Yeah, so squeaky.” Or Matthijs van Nieuwkerk ironing a shirt. Well, you get the point, you get the point.”
A considerable exaggeration of course from Arjen, but whether Matthijs can laugh about it remains to be seen.
Middle finger
It is obvious that Arjen has little understanding for the misconduct that Matthijs appears to have shown for years at DWDD. The presenter himself behaves normally behind the scenes, as can be seen in backstage vlogs that are posted on YouTube.
Media connoisseur Victor Vlam recently: “I actually see these vlogs as a big middle finger to Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s argument was: I make Champions League and that’s why I can beat everyone up, but the same is of course the case for Arjen Lubach.”
Fragment
Last year, Matthijs was still a guest at Arjen:
