For a long time, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk was advised to give an extensive TV interview, but Tom Egbers’ Khalid & Sophie confession changes that. “Do not do it!”
His interview with Khalid & Sophie has yielded little for Tom Egbers at the bottom of the line. He has more or less confirmed what the Volkskrant article says about his misconduct at NOS Sport and many viewers suffered from vicarious shame because of the many private confessions he made there.
‘Matthijs, don’t do it!’
Bert van der Veer thinks that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk would do well not to follow Tom’s example. “Until Tom Egbers joined Khalid, I was actually of the opinion that it is wise to respond quickly and extensively if you have been discredited. Put out that fire. Matthijs did not do that and I regretted that.”
The well-known TV director continues his opinion channel: “Tom Egbers motivated his performance: after 40 years of Studio Sport, he did not intend to disappear through the back door. Understandable. But with details about your affair and the aftermath? Regrets often look ugly and are usually questioned (only kissed for three years?). So yes, say no more.”
Book reviewer
It would certainly not suit Matthijs to appear on television like this, Bert thinks. “Hopefully Matthijs is brooding on a comeback project. Or he becomes a book critic for Het Parool, that is also possible.”
Opinion maker Victor Vlam thinks very differently. He thinks that Tom has given his story a human face, he says The Communicados. “He is a very good speaker and storyteller. You can really see that in it. And you can see that, for example, in the right emotion, the right chord that he knows how to hit. I think he did well.”
Linda at the table
Linda de Mol, for example, would also be extremely suitable for this, according to Victor. “I think that Linda de Mol would also benefit greatly from simply telling her story there.”
Still, Victor acknowledges that not every Dutch celebrity gets along with it. “Derk Bolt was an example of someone who didn’t do that right when he was on the same talk show.”
