Matthias Schweighöfer takes on the role of German scientist Werner Heisenberg in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, as Nolan describes the “Mirror“ told. It will be the renowned director’s 12th project.
The film tells the life story of the “father of the atomic bomb” and his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II. Irish actor Cillian Murphy will play the titular lead. In addition, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh and Rami Malek will be seen alongside Schweighöfer.
For the German, it is the first collaboration with Christopher Nolan. In the past two years he has also made a name for himself in the USA with his role as “Ludwig Dieter” in Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” and the prequel “Army of Thieves”. He also directed the latter.
Filming on “Oppenheimer” was completed in May 2022 and is scheduled to start in German cinemas on July 20. The film follows Nolan’s 2020 sci-fi action film Tenet.
