Matthias Sammer explains Mario Götze’s upswing at Eintracht Frankfurt

Matthias Sammer has commented on Mario Götze’s impressive upswing since leaving Borussia Dortmund. The BVB board advisor also sees the performance explosion at Eintracht Frankfurt as being due to Götze’s environment.

“He reminds me of the best idol I know from youth. It’s fantastic how he shapes the game,” Sammer told “Bild”.

Götze initially left BVB in 2010 for PSV Eindhoven after an overall disappointing second guest appearance. The 30-year-old offensive player has been playing for Eintracht Frankfurt since last summer.

“Mario wins running duels, he looks elegant again. He has gathered the right people around him to get back to his old strength. Mario is in a condition where he can play in any team in the world. Sometimes in life you have to take detours to get to the goal,” said Sammer, who shared responsibility for Götze’s move to Bayern Munich in 2013 as sporting director.

Mario Götze “a feast for the eyes” at Eintracht Frankfurt

The former national coach Joachim Löw, under whom Götze celebrated his greatest career success with the World Cup title in Brazil in 2014, praised the ex-problem child: “Mario had already been declared dead several times by his critics. I am all the more pleased that he He’s faced all odds in his career. He’s taken a lot, but how he came back after all the troubles, that’s great. It shows his character and his attitude.”

Götze’s handling of the ball and his passing game were “a feast for the eyes,” enthused Löw. “Nice that football Germany loves him again.”

Götze has already played 28 competitive games in the SBU shirt this season, including 19 of 19 possible Bundesliga games in the starting XI. He scored two goals and seven assists.

Thanks to his strong performances, the 30-year-old also secured a ticket for the World Cup in Qatar after a long break with the national team. There, Götze made two short appearances in the disappointing preliminary round of the DFB-Elf.
