It is still not clear who will be on the bench in the Rotterdam Kuip next Thursday when FC Volendam plays against Feyenoord. Volendam did not train yesterday and today. A private training is planned for tomorrow. It is currently unknown whether it will be led by Matthias Kohler or someone else.
Kohler was in the home game on Saturday night against PEC Zwolle (0-5) still ultimately responsible in the dug-out. A day earlier, his name was included in Team Jonk’s statement in which they indicated they were resigning. The reason was the decision of the Supervisory Board (SB) to dismiss the board led by chairman Jan Smit.
Relegation battle
The chaos at FC Volendam comes at a particularly bad time in terms of sport. The club is in seventeenth place in the Premier League and is fighting against relegation. There are two more away games scheduled until the winter break. After Feyenoord, Volendam also plays against Heerenveen.
After the match against PEC on Saturday, Kohler did not want to speculate about a longer stay as head coach. According to Supervisory Board chairman Jaap Veerman, discussions with the playing group and Kohler should reveal whether there is support to keep the 32-year-old German in the saddle at least until the winter break.
