Matthew Perry’s death: “Friends” stars break their silence

After Matthew Perry died on Saturday (October 29) at the age of 54, the “Friends” stars paid tribute to their late colleague and friend in a statement for the first time. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer submitted a statement to People magazine.

Perry played the role of Chandler Bing on the hit NBC series for 10 seasons.

The statement from the “Friends” colleagues

“We are all deeply devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just acting colleagues. We were a family,” Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer said in the statement. “There is so much to say, but for now we will take time to grieve and process this unimaginable loss.”

“Over time we will say more as we are able,” the statement continued. “Now our thoughts and love go out to Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Most recently, the full Friends cast came together for a People cover story in 2021 in support of the Friends: The Reunion special, which aired on HBO Max in May of that year.
