Matthew Perry: “Friends” stars speak out for the first time about his death

“We were a family!”: Matthew Perry’s “Friends” mourn the late actor.

After Matthew Perry died on Saturday (October 29) at the age of 54, the “Friends” stars paid tribute to their late colleague and friend in a statement for the first time: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer submitted a statement to People magazine.

Perry played the role of Chandler Bing on the hit NBC series for 10 seasons.

The statement from the “Friends” colleagues

“We are all deeply devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just acting colleagues. We were a family,” Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc and Schwimmer said in the statement. “There is so much to say, but for now we will take time to grieve and process this unimaginable loss.”

“Over time we will say more as we are able,” the statement continues. “Now our thoughts and love go out to Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Most recently, the full “Friends” cast came together in 2021 for a “People” cover theme in support of the “Friends: The Reunion” special, which aired on “HBO Max” in May of that year.
