According to TV expert Lothar Matthäus, national players Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané did themselves a disservice with their brief appearance in Bayern’s victory in Stuttgart.
“So Nagelsmann doesn’t have to think about using new players on Wednesday. They didn’t offer themselves,” said Matthäus on “Sky” with a view to the chances of the two Munich professionals in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.
The German record national player said Gnabry and Sané had to “think”.
Matthew criticizes Gnabry and Sane
The duo came on on Saturday in the 63rd minute along with Sadio Mané. “It’s clear that I didn’t have the impression that Sané or Gnabry, who have already been counted a bit in public, definitely showed the coach here in the 30 minutes they were on the pitch that they want to join the team and I don’t understand that,” Matthäus explained his criticism.
The 61-year-old, who is a youth coach himself, said: “If the players don’t perform as well as they are able to, then I’ll get angry with the e-youth.” It is the job of football professionals to give 100 percent during their assignments. “I didn’t have that feeling,” said Matthäus.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann hinted that after the impressions of Stuttgart on Wednesday in the European Cup hit against PSG, he would only change a little in the starting XI. “Large parts” of the starting staff at the guest appearance at VfB would also start again against Paris, said Nagelsmann.
