Soccer record player Lothar Matthäus worries about Franz Beckenbauer. His health is not that good, said the 62-year-old in an interview with the TV station RTL / ntv.

“Franz always said that the most important thing in life is health. He doesn’t have that at the moment,” said Matthäus. The 1990 world champion also confirmed that the 77-year-old Beckenbauer had not attended the meeting of the then World Cup team on July 9 in Grassau am Chiemsee for health reasons.

In the recent past there had been repeated speculation about the state of health of Beckenbauer, who will be 78 on September 11. The world champion as a player (1974) and team boss (1990) has largely withdrawn from the public eye. “We wish him all health, that he will be his old self again with his energy,” said Matthäus. “And of course we wish that he gets better again. That is the greatest wish.”

For health reasons, Beckenbauer had already decided not to travel to Brazil for his friend Pelé’s funeral service earlier this year. “I would like to do it, but unfortunately my health does not allow for such a long flight. I will accompany my friend in my heart on his last journey,” the “Kaiser” said in a BamS interview at the time.

Everyone who knew and liked him wished him only the best in terms of his health, because he has everything else, said Matthäus, addressing a personal message to Beckenbauer: “All the best, get well again, just like you were .”
