Matthäus praises FC Bayern for the winter transfer

Former world-class player Lothar Matthäus has highly praised FC Bayern’s transfer activities in the early winter transfer period.

FC Bayern reacted to Lucas Hernández’s injury by signing Dutch defensive all-rounder Daley Blind. Blind had previously terminated his contract with Ajax Amsterdam and is therefore moving to Munich on a free transfer. He can be used on the left flank as well as in the center of defense and in defensive midfield.

“In my opinion, an absolute top addition to the squad,” said record national player Lothar Matthäus in his “Sky” column. Blind is a perfect backup player for head coach Julian Nagelsmann because he is “versatile”. “I see him primarily as a left-back. But thanks to his class and experience, he can also play inside or in defensive midfield,” said Matthäus.

The TV expert is therefore convinced: “Anyone who plays for Ajax and the Dutch national team can help Bayern. The club acted intelligently and quickly here. Very well done.”

Matthäus firmly assumes that Sommer will be transferred to Bayern Munich

Meanwhile, there has been countless speculation for weeks about who will replace the second serious failure in the FC Bayern squad, Manuel Neuer, in the remaining Bundesliga games of the season. Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, whose contract would expire after the season anyway and is said to be flirting with a change, was hotly traded until the end. Borussia manager Roland Virkus recently put a clear stop to a transfer in winter.

Matthäus is nevertheless convinced that FC Bayern will still sign the Swiss goalkeeper in the coming weeks: “I see it as follows: In the end, Sommer will and should end up at Bayern for a price of around six or seven million euros. Both clubs know about the needs of the other person.”

The 1990 world champion is of the opinion that Gladbach should “fulfill this wish of the flagship professional” Yann Sommer, and that the goalkeeper “deserves this gratitude”.

If there is no agreement after all, Nagelsmann will “play a strong and successful second half of the season with Sven Ulreich.”
