In the summer, Min-jae Kim moved from SSC Napoli to FC Bayern for 50 million euros. But the new addition doesn’t seem to have really arrived in Munich yet. Former player Lothar Matthäus now counted the South Korean.
“Kim is not yet as far along as we had hoped. He is an insecurity factor at FC Bayern,” Matthäus rumbled on “Sky”. Kim had different systems and a different style of play in Italy at Naples than at FC Bayern. Therefore, the central defender still needs time.
“He has the requirements but he has to get used to the Bundesliga first,” emphasized Matthäus and added: “He hasn’t met the expectations yet.”
Kim makes a mistake against RB Leipzig
Kim has always been seeded under coach Thomas Tuchel. The 26-year-old was in the starting line-up in all six Bundesliga games. Four of those times he was allowed to play for the full 90 minutes.
However, in the recent 2-2 draw against RB Leipzig, Kim didn’t look good at all (sport.de grade 4.5). The defender was often left behind in duels. Before the 0-1 defeat for the Saxons, he had no access to the goalscorer Loïs Openda. Later he also made an unfortunate mistake.
There was also a public rebuke from Tuchel afterwards. “There is no reason for Min-Jae to leave the duel. We are leaving the duel with Poulsen. Upa is going out instead of securing him,” the coach complained to “Sky” after the draw.
“So we stand completely sideways and give up the space. It’s not even a big chance and then we shoot it into ourselves. It’s basically the complete opposite behavior of what we actually want,” Tuchel continued to complain.
With Jérôme Boateng, the competition at FC Bayern could soon be boosted. The ex-professional is currently training with the second team of the German record champions and could return to Munich.
