Matteo Berrettini reaches the final and is aiming for third ATP title on the gravel in Gstaad | Sport

Matteo Berrettini has secured a place in the final of the Gstaad ATP tournament at the expense of Dominic Thiem. It was 6-1 6-4 for the second seeded Italian. Berrettini finished it after more than five quarters of an hour with a short ball.

The 26-year-old Berrettini can win his third title of the year at the Swiss clay tournament. He was already the best in the grass tournaments of Stuttgart and Queen’s this year. The number 15 in the world was therefore considered an outsider for the title at Wimbledon, but he withdrew in London due to a positive corona test.

Berrettini will face the winner of the game between Norwegian Casper Ruud and Albert Ramos Viñolas from Spain in the final on Sunday. Ruud was placed first in the Alps.

For Thiem, who was out of circulation for a long time with a wrist injury, it was his first semi-final place since the beginning of May 2021.
