“Kiss the future” celebrates the band U2: the film by director Nenad Cicin-Sain tells of fate in the Yugoslav war. And how the rock band’s music gave hope to the people of besieged Sarajevo.
The documentary tells the story of television reporter Bill Carter, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. He picked up an interview with U2 frontman Bono (62) in the 1990s. And after that he was allowed to be present at almost every concert: In live broadcasts he showed the fans the suffering in Yugoslavia. And the band promised: One day we’ll play in Sarajevo. In fact: after the end of the war, the band kept the promise – a moment of goosebumps.
Another big name next to U2: The producer of the documentary is US actor Matt Damon (52, “Saving Private Ryan”). But he said modestly at the Berlinale press conference: “Most of the work was done by the people around me.”
The band didn’t attend the press conference – they then met the rest of the film crew on the red carpet at the premiere that evening.
