Veteran Mats Hummels can rise to record victory on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in the 181st Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.
The BVB central defender has won nine of his 20 derbies and, if he wins, would catch up with long-time Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc (10).
The path to becoming a record player is then not far either: in the Bundesliga era, no one played more derbies than Schalke idol Klaus Fichtel and former BVB goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller (24 each).
Schalke will most likely field a starting XI without any derby experience on Saturday.
The overall record after a total of 180 games still speaks for the Royal Blues: 69 wins are opposed to 47 draws and 64 defeats, the goal difference is 337:285.
Most recently, however, BVB won 4-0 at Schalke on February 20, 2021.
