The basketball players of German champion ratiopharm Ulm took revenge in the EuroCup with an away win at Türk Telekom Ankara. Coach Anton Gavel’s team prevailed over the previous season’s finalists on Wednesday evening with 91:78 (45:33). Six months earlier, Ulm had suffered a painful defeat in the same place in the quarter-finals.
Against a completely revamped Ankara, which recorded a whopping 15 departures including coaches in the summer, the Bundesliga leaders initially fell behind. But then the guests turned up the heat in the second quarter (29:12), took the lead and kept it overtime. The outstanding man on Ulm’s side was top scorer Georginho de Paula with 24 points, while Tyrone Wallace (15) collected the most points for Ankara.
Ulm thus achieved its eighth win in its ninth competitive game across all competitions; the Germans had only lost at the start of the EuroCup to defending champions CB Gran Canaria (82:111). After four match days, the Ulm team improved to fourth place in ten-team Group B, and the best six teams advance to the next round.
