Master artist Bozkurt Kuruç, who is also a state artist, passed away. Bozkurt Kuruç, the former General Manager of State Theaters, who made important contributions to the development of theater in Turkey, passed away at night in Izmir, where he lived.
Kuruç, also known from Kurtlar Vadisi Ambush, was the President of the State Theaters Literary Committee.
WHO IS BOZKURT Kuruç?
Born in Ankara in 1935, Bozkurt Kuruç graduated from the State Conservatory Theater High Department in 1960.
Kuruç, who took lessons from masters such as Mahir Canova, Cüneyt Gökçer, Salih Canar, Nusret Şenbay and Nurettin Sevin at the State Conservatory, worked as an actor in Ankara State Theaters after his graduation. Kuruç studied directorship in England between 1962 and 1965. The master artist served as an actor and director in more than 100 plays at the State Theatres.
Kuruç, who was appointed as a lecturer at the Ankara State Conservatory Theater Department, which was affiliated with Hacettepe University, became an associate professor in 1987 and a professor in 1988.
A LIFE DEVOTED TO THE THEATER
Working as the General Manager of the State Opera and Ballet and the State Theaters, Kuruç staged Nazım Hikmet’s “Kuvayi Milliye” in English in 1999 in Chicago, USA, with American actors. After being appointed as the Director of the Istanbul State Theater in 1987 and the General Directorate of the State Opera and Ballet in 1988, the artist was appointed as the General Manager of the State Theaters in 1989, and held this position until 1998.
The artist, who received the title of State Artist in 1991, worked as a lecturer in the Department of Theater at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory with the title of Professor until 2003.
Kuruç later taught at the Theater Department of the Cyprus Near East University Faculty of Performing Arts. Despite retiring from the State Theaters in 2000, the artist, who did not leave the stage, staged the play “Bloody Wedding” in Izmir during the 2019-2020 art season.
Wolves Valley Is Also Known From Ambush
Apart from the theater, Kuruç also took part in some TV series, especially “Kurtlar Vadisi Ambush”. One of the Izmir State Theater stages was named “Bornova Cultural Center Bozkurt Kuruç Stage” after Kuruç for his services to the theatre.
