Handball champions SC Magdeburg suffered their first defeat in the sixth Bundesliga game of the season.
At SG Flensburg-Handewitt, the defending champion lost 34:35 (13:17) on Saturday evening after a spectacle. Mads Mensah Larsen scored the decisive Flensburg goal in the very last second.
“I can’t describe it. It’s really bitter,” said SCM left winger Lukas Mertens on “Sky”: “We played a great second half, we can build on that.”
Flensburg, on the other hand, impressively got back on track after the first defeat of the season against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen last week. The best thrower for the North Germans was Emil Jakobsen with twelve goals.
The SG got off to a better start in the sold-out home arena and led for almost the entire season. Shortly before the end, Tim Hornke equalized for the first time from Magdeburg – Mensah Larsen, however, still had an answer ready.
Goalkeeper Kevin Möller’s contract extension was also announced during the game. The Danish international signed in Flensburg until 2027.
