The world-famous director, along with more than 200 well-known colleagues, laments the way the Minister of State for Culture dealt with the artistic director Carlo Chatrian in the context of the reorganization of the festival.
More than 200 prominent filmmakers protested in an open letter against the actions of Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth in the reorganization of the Berlinale and the resulting resignation of the artistic director Carlo Chatrian in the coming year. The industry magazine “Variety” first reported on this.
Signatories include international stars such as Martin Scorsese, Guy Maddin and Paul Schrader.
They accuse Roth of “harmful, unprofessional and immoral conduct” and defend Chatrian’s work. His artistic vision and the decisions during the difficult Corona period deserve thanks.
The filmmakers write: “Carlo Chatrian may not be a showman, but in his calm way he and his team have trodden an open and artistically fruitful path”.
