Martin Nyenget is a hard-level skier, but he only got his first adult race start on Sunday.
Norwegian Martin Nyenget30, got the chance of a lifetime on Sunday morning.
Announced for men’s 50 km Sjur Röthe woke up suffering from flu symptoms and was unable to participate in the race. Nyenget, who had no starts in Planica, was alerted to the first start of his career in an adult race.
It was only five hours until the start of the race.
– I had just woken up, it was about seven o’clock. I got a message that you are going skiing, Nyenget laughed.
Nyenget is not a useless substitute, as he won the Royal Tour at Holmenkollen last year. He was third in the traditional top ten in Ruka in November, and seventh in 20 kilometers at the Les Rousses World Cup in January.
There is an endurance machine, but the Norwegian has always been left out of the race starters.
– It’s a difficult situation. I watch when others get to ski, compete well and get medals. I’m proud of them, but at the same time I’d like a chance myself.
– It’s about a mental battle.

It has been joked that a star like Nyengeti would also be suitable for the Finnish national team, because he would immediately be one of the biggest stars. However, the skier does not warm to the idea.

Close to a medal
Nyengeti’s first qualifying race start of his career went well, as he was fifth on Sunday. Leave the winner To Pål Golberg came in 6.2 seconds and five seconds for the WC bronze.
– The race was good and I felt strong. It was special to ski now at the World Championships. I’m not completely satisfied with my ending, not being able to improve the ranks even more.
Next, the skier looks to Holmenkollen. Next weekend, 50 kilometers will be skied on legendary terrain.
– I have good memories from a year ago. I hope I can ski a good race again.
